Knoxville, TN (September 15, 2009) — The Tennessee Energy Services Coalition announced today that Matt Kisber, Tennessee's Commissioner of Economic and Community Development (ECD) will speak at the Tennessee Green Building Summit on September 22, 2009 at the Nashville Airport Marriott. The conference, with a theme of “Getting Green to Go Green,” will provide an opportunity for cities, counties, K-12, higher education, state agencies and a wide variety of stakeholders to participate in informative sessions on funding energy efficiency projects.

Mr. Kisber serves as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD). Appointed January 18, 2003, Commissioner Kisber has led Tennessee’s efforts that resulted in Volkswagen’s 2008 decision to locate their $1 billion assembly operation in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Under Commissioner Kisber’s leadership, 40 corporate headquarters have located in Tennessee, including Nissan North America, International Paper, Louisiana Pacific, Clarcor, Service Master, Asurion and others. Since his appointment as commissioner, Tennessee has seen more than $22 billion in new capital investment and more than 140,000 new jobs created. In May 2008, Site Selection magazine recognized the state’s accomplishments by naming Tennessee the most competitive state in the country for economic development.

Summit attendees will learn how performance contracting can be used to leverage savings to perform energy efficiency projects and where this method has been successful in Tennessee.

ABOUT TENNESSEE ENERGY SERVICES COALITION

The mission of the Tennessee State Chapter of the Energy Services Coalition is to promote the benefits of, provide education on, and serve as an advocate for the widespread use of energy performance contracting in public and private facilities.

The Energy Services Coalition is a national non-profit organization composed of a network of experts from a wide range of organizations working together at the state and local level to provide education and develop and disseminate information to increase the delivery of energy efficiency for the benefit of the general public.

The Tennessee Energy Services Coalition Chapter is dedicated to identification of barriers to the use of performance contracting as an option for building owners and occupants to acquire building upgrades, energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy resources; and combined heat and power, development of solutions that remove these barriers such as developing and disseminating new information and materials where needed; exchange of information, cooperative work by the affected parties; education on the benefits of increased energy efficiency and renewable energy and on how increased energy efficiency, water conservation, and renewable energy can be implemented; and to remove the barriers for building owners and occupants to use performance contracting and other means for acquiring and financing building upgrades, energy efficiency, and renewable energy resources.

Through the collaborative efforts and diverse knowledge of its public and private members, the Energy Services Coalition aims to make energy performance contracting one of the primary means of increasing energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and improving air quality in all types of facilities in every market segment.
